BIG news!

March 23, 2017 by garivernetwork

Have YOU heard?? The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area recently gained a bunch of land, 55 acres to be exact!!

The Trust for Public Fund bought 2,000 feet of riverfront property in Suwanee for $4.6 million last year. And now the Trust has turned that land over to the National Park Service. “This is a keystone piece because it links two pieces that were not linked together and that’s how you get that full, eight miles,” George Dusenbury, the state director of the Trust, said.

The National Park Service used the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund to buy the land from the Trust at a 50 percent discount. The conservation fund is a federal program that the Trump administration said it wants to cut. “Fortunately we have good relationships with our elected officials, particularly Senator Isakson. So we’re hopeful that we can work with Senator Isakson and others in the Georgia delegation to make sure that the Land and Water Conservation Fund is protected,” Dusenbury said. Dusenbury said the Trust is working toward establishing a greenway along the Chattahoochee from Helen all the way to Columbus, Georgia.
